Get a Grip: 3 Things You Need In Order to Close Your Hot Tub on a Windy Day

Hot Tubs are the perfect solutions to cold winter nights and maybe even summer nights depending on where you live. Closing your hot tub after every use can feel like a pain so maybe you decide to leave it open just this one time? Big mistake! Have you ever tried to walk outside during windy weather? Not the 5mph kind of wind but the one where you literally have to stomp your feet with every step just to make sure that you don’t end up face down on the concrete. Sounds difficult right? Well, have you ever tried to secure the lid on your hot tub during windy weather? You will literally be fighting both the wind and the hot tub. If you make the mistake of keeping your hot tub open throughout all weather conditions, then start strengthening your grip because you’ll need the grip of a thousand Greek gods plus a few other things to get the job done.

Selk’bag

Did you really think you’d be able to do this without a Selk’bag? We didn’t think so either! The Ultra Lite Selk’bag is most likely your best bet to get this job done. It is lightweight and insulated. So if you are dealing with chilly winds, then you’ll be able to stay outside for a lot longer. The lighter fabric also makes it much easier to maneuver the winds and lift the lid. If you don’t have one yet, then you are in luck since they are 50% OFF. Get them now or be forced to go out into the winds wearing your old tracksuit.

Your Hands

We mentioned having a strong grip earlier and we really weren’t kidding. Don’t think that you are just going to go out there and place the lid on your hot tub, then walk back in your house. If it is that easy, then let us know. The most probable outcome is that your arms are going to feel the burn. Do a few pushups or lift a few weights to get your arms and hands hot tub ready. Don’t do anything too strenuous, you don’t want your muscles to give out on you after only a few seconds.

Strategy

A strategy is everything in life. You use while driving on the freeway to try and make the exit at the last possible second to calculating how many free snacks you can get before getting called out for not making a purchase.  A strategy makes life easier and will make this whole windy day experience feel like a breeze. See what we did there? Anyways, try to do during low winds. Do not wait until mid-afternoon when the winds are highest. Also, try to do this when you have the highest visibility. So anything after sunset and before sunrise is probably not the best bet. Unless you are a bat, you probably see better during the day than at night.

Stay safe and try to keep track of the inclement weather in advance so that you do not have to deal with intense winds.

Size Chart

Kids (Ages 7+)

Please note, Selk'bag Kids models are intended for children ages 7 years and older.

A proper fit is essential to fully enjoying all the Selk'bag has to offer and for ensuring the safety of your child.  A bag that is too large for your child can represent a tripping risk when your child attempts to walk in the bag.

Please note, that the sizing recommendations are meant for children of average weight as sizing is impacted by user weight.  For example, a Selk'bag will fit a child of below average weight with a taller frame, similar to a child of average weight and a shorter frame. Likewise, a person of above average weight will require a bag meant for someone taller.

Kids Medium:
Minimum Height: 4'0"  / 122 cm
Maximum Height: 4'6" / 137 cm

Kids Large: *
Minimum Height: 4'6"    / 137 cm
Maximum Height: 4'11" / 150 cm

* Please note, Kids size Large is significantly less wide than the Adult size Small.  An adult that measures between 4'6" and 4'11" should use the Adult Small over Kids Large.

Adult

A proper fit is essential to fully enjoying all the Selk'bag has to offer.  Please note, that the sizing recommendations are meant for people of average weight and sizing is impacted by user weight.  For example, a Selk'bag will fit a person of below average weight with a taller frame that exceeds the guidelines.  Likewise, a person of above average weight will require a bag meant for someone taller.

In-between sizes?  Please first consider the weight recommendations in the previous paragraph.  Second, please understand that a looser fit is better for more comfortable sleeping, while a tighter fit is better for mobility - but may restrict sleeping comfort if booties are left on.

We always recommend to size up if you are not completely sure. It's better to have a little bit more room while using your Selk'bag!
