Camping Season is Right Around the Corner, Let's Make Sure You have the Essentials.

Nod your head if you are a camping newbie. Don’t be scared, we can see you! Well, your timing is just about perfect since spring and summer are some of the best seasons to go camping. Whether you want to burn off steam from work or school or just need time away from the city, a camping trip is a perfect way to recharge. You know how they say cash is king we’ll in the great outdoors gear is king. Trip location and duration are just a few things that factor into determining what gear you should bring. While characters like Crocodile Dundee and even Indiana Jones romanticized being outdoors, we plan to give it to you straight. Don’t just roll out of bed and go, there are a few essentials you’ll want to bring along.

Selk’bag

If you plan to run around in nature’s backyard without the right kind of clothing, then that is a battle you will most likely lose. Even though spring is considerably warmer than winter, in some areas you’ll have to deal with snow and rain. The key to a successful camping trip is going to be a Selk’bag! Two things to consider are the core and the insulation, this is what will keep you warm when the sun does go down. Grab your Selk’bag and don’t be the person shivering in your tent at night!

Shoes

Regardless of what time of year you go, you’ll always want shoes with traction. All you need is a near-death slip and fall on one of your camping trips to remind you of how cheap a pair of hiking shoes are compared to a pricey medical bill. For areas that include snow, look for snow boots. For rainy weather, avoid walking on rocks and stick to hiking boots.

Three Season Tent

A camping tent is not magical. You won’t walk in and find a kitchen with an island along with a master bedroom. Yes, its mean to be warm, comfortable, and possibly roomy. A three-season tent is great for spring, summer, and fall since it protects against snow loading and wind loading. If you didn’t dress well for the camping trip, then you can always slip into your Selk’bag for an added layer of comfort. Hey, we want to make sure that you know all of your options!

Gasp, Water!

You can make it a lot longer without food than let’s say, water. You want to make sure that you have a way to filter and purify your water. If you are camping at the start of spring, then this may be a little tricky since the temperature in many areas is still fairly cold. In order to avoid waking up to frozen water, avoid leaving your water bottle outside at night.

Size Chart

Kids (Ages 7+)

Please note, Selk'bag Kids models are intended for children ages 7 years and older.

A proper fit is essential to fully enjoying all the Selk'bag has to offer and for ensuring the safety of your child.  A bag that is too large for your child can represent a tripping risk when your child attempts to walk in the bag.

Please note, that the sizing recommendations are meant for children of average weight as sizing is impacted by user weight.  For example, a Selk'bag will fit a child of below average weight with a taller frame, similar to a child of average weight and a shorter frame. Likewise, a person of above average weight will require a bag meant for someone taller.

Kids Medium:
Minimum Height: 4'0"  / 122 cm
Maximum Height: 4'6" / 137 cm

Kids Large: *
Minimum Height: 4'6"    / 137 cm
Maximum Height: 4'11" / 150 cm

* Please note, Kids size Large is significantly less wide than the Adult size Small.  An adult that measures between 4'6" and 4'11" should use the Adult Small over Kids Large.

Adult

A proper fit is essential to fully enjoying all the Selk'bag has to offer.  Please note, that the sizing recommendations are meant for people of average weight and sizing is impacted by user weight.  For example, a Selk'bag will fit a person of below average weight with a taller frame that exceeds the guidelines.  Likewise, a person of above average weight will require a bag meant for someone taller.

In-between sizes?  Please first consider the weight recommendations in the previous paragraph.  Second, please understand that a looser fit is better for more comfortable sleeping, while a tighter fit is better for mobility - but may restrict sleeping comfort if booties are left on.

We always recommend to size up if you are not completely sure. It's better to have a little bit more room while using your Selk'bag!
